Garden Work Party and BBQ

I invited over a bunch of friends to help do some yard work and had some volunteer to help Dad with his projects.

Soil arrives.

Two yards of soil:

One yard of soil:

Building the 3x6 -foot raised bed:

Dad and James with the mitre saw:

Lianne, Eric, Myro and Jacklynn digging up the old garden bed.  Hard work!

Ken and Mom working on the barbecue.

James, Myro and myself shovelling soil in the front yard.

Will post about how to build Compost Bin later.
Short version:
Materials:
  • (10) 2x4s cut into 3' lengths
  • 3' by just over 9' of chicken wire
  • exterior deck screws
Using (8) 2x4 cut into 3' lengths, assemble assemble (4) joints as shown here (right), to make a sort of table-shape. The side opposite the complete square is the front, and will remain open.

Use the remaining (2) pieces of wood to close off two of the other 3-sided squares.

Using a staple-gun, secure chicken wire around the three faces. Done.

Finished compost bin:

Trellis in place; I really, really, really hope it stays upright...

Compost bin in place:

Trellis with netting hung from nails; secured at bottoms with more nails:

Compost bin with materials inside:

3x6 -foot bed
